SaaS positioning your sales team can actually repeat

If your positioning does not survive a live sales call, it is not positioning β€” it is copywriting. Here is the test we use.

The only test that matters

Positioning works when a buyer can repeat it back to a colleague who was not on the call. If your message needs a deck and forty minutes, it will not travel through an organisation β€” and in B2B, travelling through the organisation is the whole job.

Read your homepage out loud and ask whether a stranger could paraphrase it a day later.

Start from the alternative

Most SaaS products are not replacing a competitor. They are replacing a spreadsheet, a manual process, or a decision to live with the problem. Naming that alternative correctly changes every downstream message, because it changes what you are arguing against.

Segment until the message gets sharper

Broad positioning feels safe and performs badly. Narrowing to one segment makes the language concrete: the trigger, the internal owner, the metric they are measured on. Sales calls get shorter and better.

Add a point of view worth arguing

A product description gets skimmed. An argument gets repeated. Decide what you believe about how the work should be done, say it in public, and let the content make that case rather than listing features.

That belief is what makes your content worth reading and your brand worth remembering at the moment a buyer is finally in-market.
