What's inside

  • Why features no longer differentiate
  • Positioning around the buyer's problem
  • A GTM story competitors can't copy

01

The problem: everything already existed

We recently worked on a go-to-market strategy for a B2B SaaS product entering a market where almost everything it offered already existed: dashboards, AI insights, integrations and automated reports.

02

Start with the competition

There were cheaper alternatives, established players with eight to twelve years in market, similar features and similar AI capabilities. So better features were not going to be enough.

03

Then look at the buyer

The product could technically serve almost anyone who works with data. That is exactly the problem: when everyone is your audience, nobody really is.

04

Narrow the battlefield

Instead of selling another analytics platform, we built the strategy around a specific audience and the problems they deal with every day. That changed everything, from messaging to creative.

05

If the product isn't different, the marketing can be

Every competitor claimed to be AI-powered, next-gen, end-to-end, best-in-class, seamless and data-driven. Our answer was the marketing: not louder claims or more jargon, but creative that people in the industry would recognise themselves in.

06

Build the acquisition system around it

Different channels, one journey.

The journey

  • Target accounts
  • Decision-makers
  • Creative
  • Paid media, outbound and search
  • Retargeting
  • Trial

07

Build in search and AI visibility from day one

B2B discovery increasingly happens across traditional search and AI platforms, so a buyer asking an assistant for the best analytics platform for their team needs to find you there too.

08

The biggest takeaway

Sometimes the strategy isn't about finding another reason to say your product is different. It's about finding a better way to make the right people care.
